Even the Famous Play Lottery, and Win

The average American spends over $1,000 yearly on lottery games and scratch cards. But did you know that the famous also participate?

Perhaps they have tired of celebrity status and lost their zest to collect millions of dollars in royalties! So, they decide to trust chance, fate and the game. Indeed, something is exciting, appealing and compelling about lottery and games, and having plenty of money available doesn’t turn you off trying your luck.

How many of your favourite celebrities buy lottery tickets?

If you want to get rich through the lottery, read on for inspiration from people you have probably heard of.

Madonna

Madonna, the Queen of Pop, is a lottery winner. She is fond of playing SuperEnalotto regularly to commemorate her Italian ancestry.

She has received her fair share of lottery wins, too; €120,000 on a European tour in 2012 and another US$250,000 when she bought 100 lottery tickets. She donated that prize to charity.

Chris Singleton

This NBA athlete invested heavily in Mega Millions lottery tickets valued at US$10,000. He reportedly said he would spend the money on lottery tickets or “blow it in a club.” We now know which option he picked.

50 Cent

Thanks to a succession of smash albums, the Jamaican-born rapper who soared to global fame in the early 2000s had to declare bankruptcy in 2015.

Just months after declaring bankruptcy, he came close to winning the Powerball jackpot. He was lucky to have chosen three of the five winning numbers, only a few numbers away from having the winning ticket for the $900 million jackpot.

Hugh Jackman

Another star who likes playing the lottery is Hugh Jackman. The Australian actor is well-known for appearing in X-Men, Les Miserables, and The Greatest Showman. He is also famous for spending a lot of money on lottery tickets.

The most noteworthy incident occurred in 2011 when Jackman purchased tickets for the entire cast of the film Real Steel. What an incredible gesture! The movie star did not win, but there were rumours that someone on the staff did.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen, John Legend’s wife, purchased her first lottery ticket as the Mega Millions jackpot reached a record-breaking $656 million. We guess everybody has their price.

Wayne Rooney

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is a big fan of the lottery. Despite having millions in the bank, he enjoys playing the lottery and dreams of winning a multi-million jackpot. According to reports, Rooney does not buy tickets himself, but has his friends do it for him.

Woody Allen

In August of this year, it was revealed that famed film director Woody Allen is an avid lottery player. Allen told the Guardian that he spends $100 weekly on lottery tickets but that winning the jackpot would not be life-changing.

“I’ve discussed this with my wife. We’d still live in the same house, I’d keep working, I don’t want a boat, and I don’t wish to have an aircraft. I’m not one of those who naturally have an aversion to riches. I enjoy looking at wealthy folks. I like going on a tour of an affluent estate.”

Of course, the elephant in the room is that he’s already pretty rich. According to recent estimates, his net worth is $65 million!

Dan Bilzerian

Do you remember the man with the Instagram account? With all the ladies, guns, and a beard? Who is this man with the money?

We’ve all heard of Dan Bilzerian, the millionaire and poker prodigy. We all know this guy enjoys gambling, but did you know he’s a big lottery fan? Bilzerian spent $100,000 on tickets for this January’s world record-breaking billion-dollar Powerball jackpot. We’re relieved to report that he did not win!

Liz Hurley

Another celebrity lottery player with good intentions is Liz Hurley, who purchased 500 lottery tickets in 2010, intending to give any prizes to victims of the tragic Haiti earthquake that year. George Clooney also purchased lottery tickets to help the exact same cause.

Paris Hilton

The hotel heiress and star Paris Hilton allegedly purchased 1,500 tickets for an Italian SuperEnalotto lottery draw in 2008. When questioned about the purchase, she was keen to point out that she would donate 10% of her money to charitable organisations if she won. However, there is no proof of whether she continues to routinely play lotteries.

Simon Cowell

“I still buy lottery tickets,” the X Factor judge told reporters. “I’m still playing.” He also said he would do so anonymously if he won the jackpot. With a net worth of more than $550 million, Cowell would have to win one of the most significant lottery prizes ever to double his nest egg.
